The EUGAIN Action successfully concluded in October 2024, but our commitment to promoting gender balance in Informatics continues. Many EUGAIN members remain actively involved in advocating for and implementing of gender balance strategies through initiatives led by Informatics Europe. Here are a few ways you can contribute to advancing gender balance in Informatics:

Diversity and Inclusion Working group (WG)

Established as a Women in Informatics Research & Education (WIRE) follow-up, the WG aims to broaden its focus to encompass all aspects of diversity, including gender. The group meets regularly to discuss how to design software systems that promote diversity and ensure its inclusion in the education process. They also work to define best practices for fostering diversity through inclusion in Informatics. The WG is open to all members of Informatics Europe institutions. You can learn more and join here.

Minerva Informatics Equality Award

Launched in 2016, the Award is presented annually to recognize outstanding European initiatives and best practices that support and promote women’s careers in Informatics research and education. Noteworthy award submissions are also published as examples of best practices on our dedicating webpage as well as Informatics Europe publications. Nomination typically opens in January/February each year, and the Award is open to everyone.

European Informatics Leaders Summit (ECSS)

ECSS is the premier summit for leaders in Informatics research and education across Europe, dedicated to discussing crucial and timely strategic issues and trends. Topics include education, research, funding, entrepreneurship, management, and career development.

Since its debut in 2005, ECSS has become one of the most prominent meetings in the European Informatics community, featuring high-calibre speakers and thought leaders. It is a must-go event for research and education leaders and change-makers at all levels, in Informatics and related disciplines. EUGAIN contributed to ECSS workshops in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. If you are interested in co-chairing a workshop or suggesting a topic for a future ECSS session, please get in touch with us.
