Inspired by the theme “Connectedness” of the 21st Interaction Design and Children Conference – IDC’22, this panel brought together educators from the local communities, child-computer interaction researchers, and members of the European Network For Gender Balance in Informatics working on a common cause: to encourage more girls to study and pursue careers in computing.
Participants discussed initiatives and explored strategies such as targeted activities for primary and secondary school students, mentoring and career programs in academia and industry, etc. to increase the participation of students (particularly those who identify as girls) in the field of computing, reduce their under-representation by gender, and ensure that students who started their studies in computing will thrive, make their voices heard, and complete their studies.
